Daniel Sholder1

     Daniel Sholder was born in July 1846 at farm of Christian (Scholderer) Sholder, Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 He was the son of Christian August Scholderer and Anna Margareta Lutscher.3,1 Daniel Sholder married Caroline Berry, daughter of Peter Berry and Elizabeth Kinley, in 1876.2 Daniel Sholder died in 1931 at age 84 years. He was buried in lot 645W1/2, in the Mound Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
     Daniel Sholder was listed as living in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Seventh Census for the United States of America, enumerated on 19 September 1850 Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4

Daniel Sholder was enumerated on 30 July 1860 as a resident in the household of Christian August Scholderer in the Eighth Census for the United States of America, in the State of Pennsylvania, Lycoming County, Old Lycoming Township age 15 born in Pennsylvania.5 Daniel Sholder was employed by a local saw mill in 1880 Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He and Caroline Berry appeared on the census of 16 June 1880 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.

In 1892 the "History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania" was published, in which we find Daniel's biography that was submitted to the book's editor, John F. Meginness. On page 1136, preserved for future generations we find the following:

     DANIEL SHOLDER, fifth son of Christian Sholder, Sr., was born in July, 1846, on the homestead. He was reared a farmer, and in 1884 engaged in farming for himself. In 1890 he entered into partnership with his brother John, in truck farming, in which business he is still engaged. He was married in 1876 to Caroline, a daughter of Peter Berry; of Newberry, and they have one son, Charles. Politically he is a consistent Democrat, and has filled the office of school director in his district.2 In the Boyd's City Directory for Williamsport, Daniel Sholder lived at Lycoming Creek Road, Newberry, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, between 1900 and 1910. His occupation is listed as being a gardener.6,7,8 He and Caroline Berry appeared on the census of 14 June 1900 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry appeared on the census of 18 April 1910 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Sholder appears in family photograph on 24 August 1912 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This was taken as a part of a family reunion in which this photograph appeared in the Sunday Grit on 1 September 1912. In the Boyd's City Directory for Williamsport, Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry lived at 1311 Race Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, between 1915 and 1920. Daniel's occupation is listed as being a gardener.9 Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry appeared on the census of 2 January 1920 at Williamsport, 7th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. As of April 1930, Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry lived at 1337 Race Street, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Daniel Sholder and Caroline Berry appeared on the census of 11 April 1930 at Williamsport, 7th Ward, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
